This assessment is usually held by the coaches in twice a year. With the wonderful new members that have joined in recently, and a request, it has been decided to hold an extra assessment on 13 December 2025 at the OASIS Swim Centre at 10am following training.

The annual swim assessment is required by DBNSW. Assessment involves:

1. Swim 50m in any stroke, in usual paddling clothes, including shoes. No time limit.
2. Tread water for 3 minutes following the swim.

Members who do not undertake the assessment or do not meet the requirements must wear a PFD at all times on the water, at training, in regattas and on-water events.

Some states such as Victoria and Tasmania require a PFD to be worn at all times, however, in NSW it is mandatory for sweeps and drummers, but optional for paddlers if the assessment is succesful.
